How to choose between life coaching or therapy.
Ellen has sent us a question and she’s like, I don’t know what to choose. Should I work with a therapist? Should I work with a life coach, a psychologist? What are the differences?
This is a question that I get so often from prospective students in Global Academy of Coaching.

A therapist can help you with mental health difficulties, diagnosis and assessment. A therapist deals mostly with the past, major trauma and how you can overcome mental health difficulties.
Now, a life coach supports you to design your future based on your desires. A life coach will support you to go from where you are to where you want to be. Sounds awesome doesn’t it?
But be careful: life coaching is a non regulated profession. It’s very important to work with a life coach that is accredited by the International Coaching Federation. ICF, International Coach Federation is the largest body with coaches globally, with over 30.000 members and is present in over 140 countries.
Life coaching addresses only to people who are functional. Now you might ask, you know who is functional?
Functional is a person who can sleep, wake up, go to work, feel happy, feel sad.
Now my beautiful friend, if you believe you’re functional, if you want to start working towards your future, if you want to set goals and start step by step going ahead and if you have reached the point of enough is enough, as I call it, then you are ready to work with a life coach.
A very interesting fact is that the people who are working with a life coach, they’re usually successful. They have achieved many things and they’re at a pivotal turning point in their lives. They really have reached the point of enough is enough and they want to take their lives to the next level.
So if you feel you’re functional and you want to take your life to the next level you have reached, the point of enough is enough, then I definitely urge you to get in touch with a life coach and do a session and see how it works for you.
Life coaching always works with powerful questions. A life coach will never tell you do this or that a life coach will always support and get all the answers from within, and it’s based on the methodology of Socrates. So with powerful questions, we are bringing out your own truth. Once you feel functional and you can start working with an accredited life coach in order to start building your future, it’s such an exciting, exciting journey.
