Happy Mother’s Day!
Every year at mothers’ day, since I was 25 my mom would buy me flowers.
She would say, I know you will become an amazing mom, so I want you to start celebrating ahead of time.
Today it’s the first mother’s day since my mom has transitioned and I must say that the void is huge. It happens that today we celebrate her 40 days of transitioning. The Universe has great humour.
Before Joy I was blessed to bring into my life Marilena, Nikolas’ daughter from his first wedding.
I loved Marilena the very first moment I saw her. The past 8 years she has transformed from a child to a clever, witty and stunning teenager. I have done my best to be her “second mom” and enjoyed being next to her in this way.
Even though we are divorced with Nikolas, when people ask me how many children I have I say 3: Marilena, Joy and Luna, our doggie.
I always knew I would be a mom. But bringing Joy to earth was not easy for me. Having this faith of deep knowing helped me to go through countless operations, thousands of examinations (I cannot even count the times I gave blood), and many many “failures”.
But I knew my girl was on her way, as we were communicating years before her conception.
Joy is 6 years old now. And I believe this is one of the most beautiful and challenging roles at the same time I have been blessed with.
It’s tough to mother a person you admire.
Many times I question myself.
And the ‘I am not Enough” Bell keeps ringing aaaaallll the time.
Then, I need to deliberately pull in the Faith muscle and keep reminding myself:
I am doing the best that I can at this moment.
So if your mom is not around anymore, if you are a step mom, if you are a dog mom, whatever type of mom you are, please repeat after me:
I am doing the best that I can at this moment.
